Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova – A brilliant love story … if you leave out the end

I first heard Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova just several weeks ago. No, I don’t go out much … Actually, I do. But it’s mostly on my own. I love the outdoors. Put me on a hiking trail and you’ve just made me one really happy girl. I’ll even thank you. Right before I bid you “Good day” and kindly ask you to go hike on a different trail. I’m as anti-social as they come. I’m only half joking now …

Anyway, for the past few weeks, I’ve been listening to Glen and Marketa almost daily. I love hearing them sing together. I was surprised to hear they are not a couple anymore. They look and sound like they belong together.

I like how Glen Hansard described their romance: “It just made sense. It was lovey. And it was brilliant.” They sure make lovely, brilliant music together.

I can’t even choose a favorite song. But here are three of the ones I keep listening to.

1. Falling Slowly

2. Into the Mystic

3. If You Want Me

Yes, simply brilliant!

‘Once’ is an excellent movie with a really interesting back story. Listen to ‘When your mind’s made up.’ Hansard’s voice soars in that one, although Falling Slowly is still my favourite.

    1. I LOVE “When your mind’s made up”. I like every song on that soundtrack, bloody depressing that they are though.

Just a couple of days ago I heard Josh Groban’s version of “Falling slowly” and couldn’t help shaking my head and saying, “No, you got it all wrong! That’s NOT how you sing it!”. Josh has a very good voice, of course, but Glen and Marketa sing that song perfectly.

I just listened to Josh Groban murder ‘Falling Slowly’. I didn’t even know he covered it, and now it’s too late to un-know it, so thanks for that. I like the songs that few, if any, have the guts to cover. Like this one.

        1. Wow. Definitely in the “haunting” category. Thank you for sharing it.

I’m getting most of my entertainment from books. I’m a movie and music illiterate. I’m trying to remedy that. The big problem is that I get stuck on things I like. For example, I’ve been listening almost exclusively to Damien Rice for about two months now. Obsessive a bit … or much? Yep, that’s me.

You’re right about un-knowing Josh Groban’s “Falling Slowly”. It just isn’t right. Yesterday, as soon as I got home, I put on my “Once” soundtrack. That’s about as close to bloody perfect as you can get. :-)
