Unashamed Writing

Authentic writing from the gut - the studio of a self-taught writer

Do you want to be a good writer? Here’s another challenge for you: control you BLOODY moods

careful i'm moodyI’m not the moodiest person out there but there are times when I ride the highest high or cry myself to sleep through the lowest low just because someone I love did or didn’t do something. That’s not smart … of course … but I’m only human … just like 99.99% of the rest of the population. The remaining .01% are the pure souls who were able to transcend our base, primitive needs and are now blissfully floating in emotional nirvana.

I personally think emotional nirvana would be … horrible. But what do I know? I’ve never been there. I have no clue what it would actually be like. I even had to look “nirvana” up just to make sure I spelled it right.

I’m glad to be a mere mortal … for the most part. Only, my novels seem to be affected by it.

Did I just get a text from someone I love?  Awesome: my hero and heroine are having fun planning an exotic vacation while watching an X-rated movie … or making their own X-rated movie.

Did I just get screwed … figuratively? Too bad for my characters. Plans get cancelled. Homemade naughty movies get leaked. Doors are slammed and mouths are shut tight before any hurtful words can be spoken. Have you ever tried kissing someone whose mouth is tightly shut? It’s no fun!!

Sooo … what do you do when your bloody mood controls you? In my mind, you have two choices:

  1. You keep working on the novel. Expect it to be “the most inconsistent piece of literature” out there. If that’s the distinction or award you were aiming for … good for you. Have fun with your fluctuating writing. If not, go to choice number 2.
  2. You put the darn novel down. You vent your frustrations on your blog. Then you make up … or take a shower and come up with crazy sexual fantasies … then act those fantasies out. That’s the most important part. Everybody likes a good … climax .. especially writers. They are the ones who appreciate them most!

Now that you’re back to being your usual un-moody self, pick up your pen again and write your fiction. Your readers can’t wait to find out the details about that exotic vacation and the X-rated homemade movie.
