In My Dreams – A poem

i'll see you when i fall asleepI started reading a new book yesterday, a collection of French poems, and I came across Sentimental Dialogue (Colloque Sentimental) by Paul Verlaine. I wish I had copied it because it was a beautiful translation. The translations I found online didn’t do the poem enough justice.

I did copy one line and that was “Do you still see my soul in your dreams?” I thought it was beautiful. And it inspired me to write a poem too … of course. Here it is:

In my dreams
By Ada Ireland

I still see your soul in my dreams,
I still quiver when I imagine your touch,
I still go weak when I recall your voice,
I still moan with pleasure when I pretend that we kiss.

I can’t unchange anything you changed,
I can’t unhear any words that you spoke,
I can’t unfeel the love that I feel for you,
I can’t unsee your soul in my dreams.

I love you …
In my dreams
And when I wake up.

P.S. This is a link to Colloque Sentimental in French. It’s really nice, although it has darker tones than my poem has.
