Not the healing kind
By Ada Ireland

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” the battle-scarred warrior said to me. It was supposed to be an encouragement, but it came out sounding like an order.

“This too shall pass,” the wise man added. A hint of pity and knowing melancholy tinged his voice. I felt him reach out and hold my hands, yet he never moved. Never touched me.

“Give it some time and it will heal,” the doctor joined in the conversation with impersonal, sterile words.

I didn’t have the strength to argue with them so I remained quiet even though I knew all three were wrong. Other falls will make me stronger. Other tears will come and go. Other wounds will heal. But this? This hole you left behind? It won’t. It isn’t the healing kind. I’ll have to learn to live with it.

  1. This is something I have felt at those exact words said to me-I love this and your honesty

    1. Thank you, SG.

I came across Lang Leav and Michael Faudet’s writing just a couple of weeks ago, and I really enjoyed not only their poems, but their short prose also. Hence, my trying my hand at something different.

I think your poetry has a similar quality to theirs. It touches something inside the reader, something that can’t even be named nor understood at times, yet it’s powerful enough to make us stop, smile, or shed a tear (or all of the above).

You are very talented. I hope to see your own poems in my bookstore soon. I think a perfect title for your first book would be “The Music Box.” :-)

      1. I adore Lang Leav, and I will check out more from Michael Faudet. You are so kind to me- you really do touch me with your words. Thank you so much. I love the music box title! Wow- you’re the one with the true gifting here beautiful soul :)) I will give you the credit for that- I love it. You are a treasure here for me. Thank you

        1. Thank you, SG. From all I’ve seen on your site, you have enough poems for “The Music Box” book. You could start posting lines of your poems on tumblr and get readers interested in your work before you publish anything. That’s how it worked for Lang Leav.

BTW: Michael Faudet is Lang’s friend and lover. They make beautiful (and hot) poetry together. :-)
