Authentic writing from the gut - the studio of a self-taught writer

My mind was ready for the mysteries of the universe – it was my arms that were too weak

handstand snowmanYesterday I spent a good amount of time working on my latest piece of flash fiction. I struggled with it a lot. Something didn’t seem to flow the way I wanted it to. Anyway, long story short, it took me several hours to get to the point where I felt comfortable enough to post it online.

The only reason I can spend hours at a time writing is because I do all my writing while walking on a treadmill. I could not spend more than one hour sitting down. Even that would be torture. I like being active.

Surprisingly enough, after all those hours on the treadmill, I still felt like I had a lot of energy in me. Out of the blue, I felt the need to do a handstand. I had to do it against the wall since my balance is totally messed up, but hey, “assisted handstand” is better than no handstand, right? Right!

This is where my story should get interesting: as soon as I got into a handstand, I felt a rush of blood to my head and I had this feeling that all the mysteries of the universe were going to be revealed to me. Unfortunately, that feeling only lasted a few seconds. That’s how long it took for my arms to give out and for me to fall on the floor.

Needless to say, I’m now none wiser about our mysterious universe. I’m going to start a routine of daily push-ups though. I need to gain more strength in my arms so that the next time I get the urge to do a handstand, I’d be able to hold it long enough for the universe to spill some of its secrets to me. I’ll make sure to write everything down. That’s a promise!
