Borrowed words – Mark Twain and Kahlil Gibran

wordsI read something today that resonated with me. Here it is:

“Words are permanent. Someday you’ll say something you wish you could take back.”

It’s a good reminder that sometimes it’s best to keep my mouth shut. Not everything that is on my mind must get out on paper. Or, even worse, on my blog.

For those times, it’s best to use borrowed words. Words that have already been spoken and can’t be taken back anymore. Not that they would need to be. There are so many wonderful words out there. Words that touch my heart and my mind. Words that can express much better what I would like to say but can’t or don’t know how to.

Here are two quotes I like very much.

“One learns through the heart, not the eyes or the intellect.”

– Mark Twain

“Your joy is your sorrow unmasked. […]

The deeper that sorrow that carves into your being, the more joy you can contain. […]

When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.

When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.”

– Kahlil Gibran

Beautiful words. I’m glad they can’t be taken back!
