I wrote another simple poem. This one was prompted by some verses in a song I heard the other day. I have no clue who sang the song, or what its title was, but the words that stood out to me were: “I love you the way you are, not the way you ought to be.” I changed them a bit in my poem to suit the way I feel.
A selfish love?
By Ada Ireland
I love you for the way you are,
Not for the way you think you ought to be.
I love you for the way you make me feel,
Not for the way you think I ought to feel.I love you not to see a change in you,
I love you for the many things you change in me,
I love you not to bring the best in you,
I love you for the way you bring the best in me.So does this make me selfish?
That when you think it through,
I love you not for you,
I love you just for me.Selfish or not,
I just love … you.
